High Speed Rail Support
Born in
Fresno
The nation’s first high-speed rail (HSR) project broke ground in Downtown Fresno on January 6, 2015, marking the beginning of the high-speed rail era for the United States. Our region will now be the starting point of a high-speed rail network that will one day span the entire state, beginning with the first operational segment between the San Joaquin Valley and Silicon Valley in 2025, before advancing to a 500-mile system connecting San Francisco to Los Angeles by 2029.
It's
Happening
The construction of high-speed rail’s “Backbone” is well underway in Fresno and surrounding communities. In addition to the billions of dollars directly invested on HSR infrastructure, the City of Fresno has received an excess of a $100 million from the California High-Sped Rail Authority for related road and highway infrastructure upgrades, improving Fresno’s overall transportation network.

The Pitch for a
Heavy Maintenance Facility in Fresno County
A project like California’s High Speed Rail Heavy Maintenance Facility (HMF) is expected to bring over 2,000 permanent jobs, and an entirely new industry sector—heavy maintenance. A project like the HMF is large enough to have transformative community effects. Formed in 2010, Fresno Works is a coalition of officials from the County of Fresno, City of Fresno, and the Council of Fresno County Governments, working together with leaders in business, labor and education to promote Fresno County as the ideal location for the HMF.
